Book Review: Beautiful Creatures

Standard

Author(s): Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Genre: YA

Summary: Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

Review: I absolutely inhaled this book. I couldn’t put it down and I cannot wait to read the next one! I’m really hoping the film does it justice. (I have a bit of a nervous twitch when it comes to adaptions)

I didn’t know much about this book when I picked it up, so I was surprised by the male MC. Ethan Wate knocked it out of the ball park. I think he’s my favorite MC ever. Not whiny, not brooding. I know this book wasn’t just about him, but his development throughout the book was perfect.

The story was wonderful! I’m excited to dig deeper into the Caster world! Every character was unique and there were pages upon pages of beautiful description. I really liked the flashbacks, I thought they were uniquely done! This is a big book, but the pacing was perfect. I never felt like it was dragging or that certains part could have been left out.

Recommendation: I gave this a 5 star on Goodreads. GO READ IT!
